Snap Quote Overview

DTN.IQ Snap Quote is a detailed quote window with all pertinent trading information. You can access Snap Quote from DTN.IQ, from a Watch List, or from any application with the Snap Quote icon  on its toolbar.

You can open multiple Snap Quote windows and view data for a different symbol in each window.

The Snap Quote window consists of the following:

  • Toolbar with icons and a drop-down menu from which to access Snap Quote functions.
  • Indicators showing if the price of the selected symbol is up  or down .
  • Symbol box with a company’s ticker symbol.
  • Exchange, such as NYSE.
  • Data columns.
  • Current data, which are automatically updated by Snap Quote.

You can use the icons and menu on the toolbar to create a Snap Quote and open related DTN.IQ applications. The following table presents the functions you can perform with the Snap Quote toolbar icons and menu.

To perform this function: Click on:
View a Snap Quote for a selected symbol
Search for a symbol
Toggle Show Fundamental Data.
Create a DTN_IQ Chart for the selected symbol
Access news articles for the selected symbol
Show Time & Sales data for the selected symbol

When you right click on a Snap Quote, a menu of available options appears. The following table presents the right mouse menu options you use to perform Snap Quote functions.

The Snap Quote window contains the company’s ticker symbol at the top and columns with data. Here are descriptions for the data in a Snap Quote window.

Data Column Description
Name Ticker Name
Change Change in price from the prior close.
Last Last trade price.
Tick Trend Reflects the most recent 10 Last-Qualified Trades. No Pre / Post market or Other trades.

Three symbols are used:
↑              current trade price is greater than the last
↓               current trade price is less than the last
•              current trade price is the same as the last

Example: Trades of 12,12,14,11,11 appear as 00+-0

Bid Price at which people are willing to buy a stock.
Ask Price the seller is asking for the stock.
Open Opening price for today.
High Highest price the stock reached for the day.
Time Time of the last trade.
Bid Tick Up to the last five bids involved.

Three symbols are used:
              current bid price is greater than the last
               current bid price is less than the last
•              current bid price is the same as the last

Example: Trades of 12,12,14,11,11 appear as 00+-0

Spread The difference between the bid and the ask price.
ET Last Extended Trading Last.
Strike Price An option’s strike price.
Open Interest The total number of futures or future options contracts that have not been executed, closed out, or allowed to expire.
% Change Ratio of change divided by close.
Trade Volume Volume of an actual sale.

Example: 1000 shares at 12 1/2

Volume Number of shares traded for the day.
Bid Volume Number of shares people are willing to buy at the bid price.
Ask Volume Number of shares sellers are willing to sell at the ask price.
Close Closing price for yesterday.

Note: Yesterday’s close is not necessarily today’s open since trading is done overnight on Instinet.

Low Lowest price the stock reached for the day.
Delay Number of minutes delayed.
